We've heard about landscapers who look over a site, scribble a few words on paper, and call it a 'quote.' An experienced landscaper can probably do this, but it does little to help the customer understand all of the thinking that goes into a particular situation. When we do an estimate, we try to make it a learning experience that shows, in detail, all of the components of a great landscape.

We don't do 'quotes'. We do estimates. Here's how they're different: It's all about "dollars and sense".
| Quote or Bid | Estimate | |
|---|---|---|
| Price | Fixed | Variable |
| Number on the bottom | A promised price | A prediction of the likely price |
| Risk of Unknown | All on the contractor | Shared by contractor and customer |
| Incentive for Contractor | Pad the quote. Do the work as cheaply as possible, cutting corners if necessary | Be accurate. Do the job right, handling unforeseen problems as they arise |
| Customer Knowledge Needed | How to look for corner-cutting | How the job will go |
As you can see, there are advantages to both and disadvantages to both. We'd just rather work on a team with the customer than have an adversarial relationship.

Whether you use a quote or an estimate, trust is the key to a good contractor relationship. Quotes might work a little better when the trust is low, but estimates are much better when both sides trust the other. That's why we like estimates: the quality of our work shows even before we start. A thorough estimate lets you know that we mean what we say when we say, "we love our work." And, the way you respond to our estimates help us learn to trust you.

We don't charge for estimates. It might be the best deal in Fredericksburg Landscaping. Whether you go with us or not, you will have learned from our experience, and we'll be happy to do it. You just can't lose!
